"I took my first photography class in the fall of 2002 after majoring in music and then communication design. The preceding year had been filled with taking boring pictures of boring things with a boring digital camera. Switching to film (because of the class) changed things a bit by giving me more control, but I basically continued to shoot the same boring things. It wasn't until my Musicians series that I slowed down and actually thought about what I was shooting. The summer had given me enough time away from the darkroom that I had a real need to become immersed in photography. I used a 4×5 view camera, saw my results immediately on the Polaroid positive, and actually got some satisfaction from my work. Now I'm about to graduate, get married, spend a year out of school and then apply to graduate schools again like my life depended on it."

- Paper: Ilford Fiber Base Double Weight Matte Paper
- Size: 4"×5" (contact prints)
- Each print was toned using Kodak Sepia II Warm Toner, then dyed in tea.
All of the original 25 images in this series were taken for my first senior thesis during the fall of 2003.
